The RTA has planned detours and service adjustments to accommodate transit services during Mardi Gras parades around New Orleans. Check out the 2020 Mardi Gras Guide to see maps and detours. Mardi Gras Guide

General Information

Below is general information relating to parades, general detour details, and how streetcars will operate during the Mardi Gras season.

   
General Detour Information All detours start two (2) hours before a parade begins. Detours will remain in place until clean up crews finish cleaning the parade route. Bus and streetcar lines not impacted by parades will be be on their regular routes. Remember that increased traffic and pedestrian movements may delay a bus or streetcar route even if there is no direct impact due to a parade.
 
Streetcar Detours
2 - Riverfront Streetcar

During parades, the Riverfront Streetcar will only service stops between French Market Station and Canal Street Station. There will be no streetcar service between Liberty St. and the Riverfront during parades. Poydras Street Station and Julia Street Station on the Riverfront continue to be out of service due to construction on the Four Seasons project.

 
12 - St. Charles Streetcar

From Feburary 14 to February 21, there will be adjustments to the St. Charles Streetcar. During parades, streetcars will operate between S. Claiborne Avenue. and Valence Street Shuttle bus services will be provided from Valence St. to Canal Street via the 15 - Freret route, terminating at Duncan Plaza. Heading Uptown, shuttle buses will travel along Loyola Avenue to Calliope Street to O.C. Haley Boulevard. After parades, streetcar service will resume along St. Charles Avenue.

From February 19 through Mardi Gras Day on February 25, there will be no streetcar service between Valence Street and Canal Street at all. Before and after parades, shuttle bus services will operate between Valence Street and Canal Street along St. Charles Avenue. During parades, shuttle bus services will operate from Valence Street to Canal Street via the 15 - Freret route, terminating at Duncan Plaza.

 
47 - Canal-Cemeteries Streetcar

During parades, streetcar service will be provided from the Cemeteries Transit Center to the Union Passenger Terminal via Loyola Avenue. There will be no streetcar service between Liberty Street and the Riverfront during parades.

48 - Cemeteries-City Park Streetcar

During parades, streetcar service will be provided from the City Park/Museum to La Salle St. There will be no streetcar service between Liberty Street and the Riverfront during parades.

49 - Rampart-St. Claude Streetcar

Due the Hard Rock Hotel collapse and exclusion zone, the Rampart-St. Claude Streetcar is not in service. The 57 - Franklin, 88 - St. Claude, and 91 - Jackson/Esplanade bus lines provide service onN. Parades

Parades are scheduled throughout the city. To see how detours are planned throughout the Mardi Gras season, click on the type of parade below. 
 
French Quarter Parades

There are five parades this Carnival season that pass through or near the French Quarter in the Marigny. Below are the planned detours for these parades. Remember to plan extra time to reach your destination this Carnival season.  

Krewe du Vieux & krewedelusion
Krewe du Vieux & krewedelusion - February 8, 6:30 pm

St. Charles Streetcar: Streetcars will stop at Howard Ave. during the parade. Shuttle buses will provide service between Howard Ave. and Canal St.

Canal Streetcars: Streetcars heading downtown will stop at Liberty St. during the parade. Streetcars will run on the Riverfront between Harrah's and French Market. 

5 - Marigny-Bywater: Buses will run between Elysian Fields Ave. and Poland Ave. starting at 4:30 pm until service ends at 6:45 pm.

10 - Tchoupitoulas & 11 - Magazine: Buses will detour down Calliope St. to Convention Center Blvd. to get to Canal St.

16 - S. Claiborne: Buses end at Canal St. and Elk Pl. No service on Poydras St. between Loyola Ave. and Magazine St.

55 - Elysian Fields: Buses will detour via St. Claude Ave. to Elk Pl. at Canal St.

Expect delays on 5 - Marigny-Bywater and 55 - Elysian Fields.

Krewe of Chewbacchus - Saturday, February 1, 7:00 pm

5 - Marigny/Bywater & 55 - Elysian Fields: No service on Decatur Street. Use Riverfront Streetcar to access Canal Street.

57 - Franklin & 80 - Desire-Louisa: Buses will use Claiborne to get to Duncan Plaza. No service on Rampart Street/St. Claude Avenue until the parade is over. 
 
88 - St. Claude: Buses will use Claiborne Avenue to Esplanade Avenue to Basin Street to Duncan Plaza. 

Krewe of Barkus
Krewe of Barkus - Sunday, February 16, 2:00 pm

Expect delays on the 57 - Franklin, 88 - St. Claude, and 91 - Jackson/Esplanade during the parade. 

 
West Bank Parades

There are two parades on the Westbank that will require detours. Both parades are in Algiers. Remember to plan extra time to reach your destination during Carnival season. The two parades are the Mystic Knights of Adonis and the Krewe of NOMTOC. Below are maps and detour information for both parades.

114/115 - General De Gaulle: Buses will take MacArthur Blvd and Woodland Dr. to Sullen Dr. No service on Garden Oaks, Behrman Hwy or Tullis Dr. during parade.

Krewe of NOMTOC
Krewe of NOMTOC - Saturday, February 22, 10:45 am

101 - Algiers Point: No service to Eliza St. and Hendee St.

102 - General Meyer: No service between Kabel Dr. and Whitney Ave.

108 - Algiers Local: Service between L.B. Landry at Semmes St. and Cut-off only

12-St. Charles Shuttle Bus: Shuttle bus services will stop at Union Passenger Terminal during parade.

15-Freret: Buses will stop at Union Passenger Terminal. There will be no service to Canal St.

16-S. Claiborne: Stops from Loyola Ave. to Canal St. will not be serviced.

27-Louisiana: No service between Delgado Community College and Cemeteries Transit Center.

28-MLK: Buses will go to Tulane Ave. and La Salle St. There will be no service to Canal St.

32-Leonidas: Route will be split on either side of the parade with service from Audubon Park to Banks St. and from Orleans Ave. & N. Scott St. to Basin St. & Canal St.

47/48-Canal Streetcars: No streetcar service during parade. Shuttle bus service will be provided from Basin St./Canal St. to the Cemeteries Transit Center along a detoured route.

51/52-St. Bernard: Buses will use regular route to Basin St.

84-Galvez: Buses will use Orleans Ave. to Basin St. and Bienville St.

90-Carrollton: The line will be split into two with service from Elysian Fields Ave. to Beauregard Circle (Stop ID: 4663) and S. Claiborne Ave. to Cemeteries Transit Center, following 27-Louisiana route from S. Carrollton Ave. to Cemeteries Transit Center.

91-Jackson/Esplanade: Buses will not run between Walmart and Iberville St.

94-Broad: Service will be split on either side of Canal St., with stops at Banks St. and Bienville St. until the parade passes Broad Ave.

101/102/114/115: Buses will use Claiborne Ave. exit to access Tulane Ave. to La Salle St.

All bus services will follow their Saturday schedules, except for the 106-Aurora, which will follow its weekday schedule. There will be no shuttle bus services for the 12 - St. Charles Streetcar on Mardi Gras Day.

5-Marigny/Bywater: No service on Decatur St./N. Peters St. to Canal St.

10-Tchoupitoulas: Stops between Marengo St. and Audubon Park and Poydras St. and Canal St. will not be serviced during the parades.

11-Magazine: Stops between Marengo St. and Audubon Park and Poydras St. and Canal St. will not be serviced during the parades.

15-Freret: No service on Mardi Gras Day.

16-S. Claiborne: Stops between Loyola Ave. and Harrah’s on Poydras St. will not be serviced during parades.

27-Louisiana: Stops between Carondelet St. and Tchoupitoulas St. will not be serviced during the parades.

28-MLK: Stops between S. Dorgenois St. and Tchoupitoulas St. will not be serviced during the parades. Buses will go to Canal St. and La Salle St.

32-Leonidas: Buses will take Carrollton Ave. to Esplanade Ave. and follow the 91-Jackson-Esplanade to N. Rampart St. and Bienville St.

47/48-Canal Streetcars: Heading Downtown, streetcars will stop at La Salle St.

51/52-St. Bernard: Buses will not service stops on Basin St. during the parade. Buses will go to N. Rampart St. to Bienville St.

55-Elysian Fields: No service on Decatur St./N. Peters St. to Canal St. Use Riverfront Streetcar at French Market Station to access Canal St.

84-Galvez: No service between Esplanade Ave. to Loyola Ave. Buses will use Esplanade Ave to N. Rampart St. to Bienville St.

91-Jackson/Esplanade: No service between N. Rampart St. & Bienville St. to Tchoupitoulas St.

94-Broad: Service will be split on either side of Orleans Ave. until parades are over.
