RTA’s Mobility Solutions for Carnival Season 2017 (New Orleans, LA)— This carnival season, the RTA keeps our transit services rolling around the parades to get you where you need to go in New Orleans safely and conveniently. A number of tools to help our local residents have been developed to encourage the use of public transit and help navigate the various detours and road closures that go hand-in-hand with Mardi Gras Season. The best way to stay up-to-date is by using the dedicated Mardi Gras webpage of the RTA’s mobile-friendly website at www.norta.com and by following our updates on social media @NewOrleansRTA. Tools like the Trip Planner, Service Nearby and Service Alerts indicate any temporary delays or irregularities with bus and streetcar lines. For all Uptown parades, the St. Charles Streetcar will run from Claiborne to Napoleon; but for Downtown parades and Endymion, the St. Charles Streetcar can run up to Erato Street. Canal Streetcars will stop at Liberty St. for most Uptown and French Quarter/Marigny parades. The Canal line will be shut down during Endymion Saturday, February 25th. On Mardi Gras Day, the Canal Streetcar will operate from City Park to Claiborne Avenue. The Rampart-St.Claude Streetcar will be replaced with busses starting 2 hours before Uptown and Downtown parades begin. There will be no service on the Rampart Streetcar on Saturday, February 25th and Mardi Gras Tuesday, February 28th. All Bus services for all parades will stop as close to the parade routes as possible – RTA vehicles are unable to cross parade routes. The detours will take effect 2 hours before a parade begins until the parade has completely cleared the transit route. To keep the line rolling, it is best to purchase your 24-hour Jazzy Passes prior to boarding. Purchase them in-person anytime at a number of Ticket Vending Machines, all Walgreens locations throughout the city and Unique Grocery. Jazzy Passes offer unlimited rides and transfers on all Orleans Parish Busses and Streetcars-- just dip your Jazzy Pass each time you board. A handy option to purchase and store passes is RTA’s GoMobile ticketing application, available for free download from the Apple Store or Google Play. It only takes a minute to download the app and register your initial account. Then you can choose the pass or passes that best suit your lifestyle, confirm your payment and the tickets will store in your phone for up to 14 days. 31-day passes activate immediately. Once you are ready to board, just tap your ticket and be on your way! Additionally, free copies of the 2017 Mardi Gras Rider’s Guide are available at libraries, concierge desks, visitors’ centers such as the New Orleans Convention and Visitors Bureau and busses. This handy guide features maps, parade routes and advice on how to use the transit system and specific information of where each route will detour around the parades. An electronic copy of the 2017 Mardi Gras brochure can also be downloaded from RTA’s website. For more information about RTA’s 2017 Mardi Gras Rider’s Guide or GoMobile, visit www.norta.com.
