RTA Participates in Small Business Expo at Delgado

The New Orleans Regional Transit Authority’s Small Business and Disadvantaged Business Enterprise team participated in the 7th Annual Small Business Expo on Thursday, August 24th at Delgado Community College. The event drew agencies from around the nation including NASA, FEMA, and several other federal government departments.

“We had many reasons why we wanted to participate,” Genia Browder, DBE Compliance Manager, said. “We wanted to encourage small businesses to get their DBE certification with RTA, and utilize the E-bid procurement system. Additionally, we discussed with small business leaders how we might improve the current system.”

Small businesses can become DBE certified through the RTA and the certification is recognized throughout the state of Louisiana. Projects can range from developing new technologies for buses to repairing and maintaining streetcar lighting.

The Small Business Expo, promoted by Congressman Cedric L. Richmond, brings in businesses from all over the region to develop relationships with procurement offices and local firms. The main aim of the exposition is to increase positive economic trends at the local level.

“We made a lot of great contacts with various companies,” Browder mentioned. “We’re excited about the prospect of working with them in the future.”
