Cemeteries Transit Center Project The Cemeteries Transit Center is now Open Lines that have been detoured for the project returned to their pre-project routes on Sunday, January 7, 2018. What is the Cemeteries Transit Center Project? The RTA started construction on the Cemeteries Transit Center Project at the intersections of Canal Street and City Park Avenue, and at the intersection of Canal Boulevard and City Park Avenue on July 31, 2017, at 7 am. Service changes and detours began on July 30, 2017. The purpose of this project is to build a greatly improved transfer center on Canal Boulevard north of City Park Avenue. The intersection was opened to motorists on Monday, December 4, 2017. Buses and streetcars began using the transit center on Sunday, January 7, 2018. Riding Experience Whether riders are heading to the area to visit the historical cemeteries or make a transfer, the Cemeteries Transit Center will allow for the RTA buses and streetcars as well as JeT buses to meet up in one location. Additionally, covered walkways and shelters will protect riders from inclement weather. Signals New traffic and pedestrian signals allow for safer driving and walking within the intersection. New traffic signals have been placed at the City Park Avenue-Canal Boulevard intersection. New pedestrian signals have been placed at the Canal Street-City Park Avenue intersection and the City Park Avenue-Canal Boulevard intersection. Road and Sidewalk Conditions New pavement on the road allows for smoother driving and biking. Sidewalks have been repaired for safer walking and biking.
