RTA Board Approves Route Extension to Ochsner Health System

8/28/2018

#39 Tulane Bus Line will provide service to Ochsner on Jefferson Highway

What: The Regional Transit Authority’s (RTA) Board of Commissioners voted to extend service to Ochsner Hospital on Jefferson Highway. The move was praised by the public and had the full support of the City of New Orleans Mayor’s Office and the City Council, and the Jefferson Parish President and Council.

When: Vote passed this morning - August 28 @ 10am (during RTA’s monthly Board of Commissioners meeting)

Where: The #39 Tulane bus line will extend beyond Mistletoe Street & S. Claiborne to Causeway Boulevard & Jefferson Highway, near Ochsner Main Campus.

Timeframe: Bus extension to commence • Mid-September 2018

Why: As part of Orleans and Jefferson Parishes’ efforts to provide regional public transportation, the #39 Tulane extension to Ochsner, on Jefferson Highway, will travel beyond Mistletoe Street and S. Claiborne to Causeway Boulevard and Jefferson Highway, providing easier access for Ochsner employees, as well as patients and their families. In addition, the service hours on the #16 South Claiborne bus line will be extended to 24-hours to match the 24-hour service provided on the #39 Tulane bus line. This addition will give riders more ways to access the hospital and will provide a needed 24-hour transit corridor through Uptown.

The extension to Ochsner will complement the Regional Ride program which will kick-off next month. The program grants bus riders all-day access to both RTA and JeT bus lines for $6, without having to buy separate passes.

These regional efforts signal the commencement of true regional public transit connectivity between Orleans and Jefferson Parish. Riders and local leadership have been asking for regional transit, and RTA is happy to help answer the public’s call.
