Ferries All New Orleans ferries have pedestrian-friendly entrances with easy access to ramps to allow persons with disabilities to board, ride, and exit ferries easily and comfortably. To view more information about the ferries, click here. Passengers Requiring Special ADA access for the ferry Please arrive 15 minutes before the ferry is scheduled to depart. A pedestrian friendly ramp is located at each ferry for boarding easy boarding with canes and walkers, in wheelchairs, on bikes, with children in strollers, and dogs on their leashes. For the Canal/Algiers Ferry you will need to board using the bottom ramp. Please look for the directional signs that show you how to get to the bottom ramp. For the Lower Algiers/Chalmette Ferry you will need to use the pedestrian ramp. Please look for the directional signs that show you how to get to the pedestrian ramp. Pay your fare. You may qualify for reduced fares. See the section below to see if you qualify for a reduced ferry fare. Exit the ferry using the ramp. If you need help getting off of the ferry, please let the attendant know. Reduced Fares Reduced fare is $1. Seniors 65 +, disabled and Medicare pedestrians must show valid ID or Reduced Fare Card to pay the reduced fare. Drivers who are eligible for reduced fare on the Lower Algiers Chalmette Ferry must show valid ID or Reduced Fare Card. There is no charge for additional Seniors 65+, disabled, or Medicare passengers.
