Coronavirus (COVID-19) Service Information


All bus and streetcar routes are operating on the Saturday schedule, Monday through Saturday. On Sunday, bus and streetcar routes will operate on the Sunday schedule. Fares are being collected. 

Use GoMobile to Pay Fares

RTA encourage riders to pre-purchase fare via the GoMobile app available in the Apple App or Google Play stores. For more info on how to download and use GoMobile, click here.
 



To further protect our riders and operators, all passengers must wear a mask or face covering that covers the mouth and nose. Face coverings can be made from cloth material that is easily washable and reusable. 

Bus, streetcar, and ferry services have been reduced to help mitigate the spread of COVID-19. Paratransit services are operating normally. In addition to to wearing face coverings, we encourage riders to take preventative measures to stay safe including covering coughs/sneezes and washing hands regularly. Face Coverings

To protect our riders and operators, all passengers must wear a mask or face covering that covers the mouth and nose. This requirement does not apply to children under the age of 2 or to individuals who are unable to wear a mask or face covering due to a medical condition. Face coverings can be made from cloth material that is easily washable and reusable.

Bus and Streetcar Service

All bus and streetcar routes are operating on the Saturday schedule, Monday through Saturday, until further notice. On Sunday, buses and streetcar routes will operate on the Sunday schedule. 


Ferry Service

Algiers Point – Canal Street : The Algiers Point – Canal Street Ferry will operate Sunday through Saturday from 6:00 am to 10:00 pm

Lower Algiers – Chalmette: The Chalmette ferry schedule will remain the same.


Paratransit Service

Paratransit services will continue to operate in order to meet the needs of the community. The agency asks Paratransit riders to assist in helping to keep the community safe by prioritizing reservations. Life sustaining reservations will take priority at this time, followed by nutrition.
We ask riders to limit the number of recreation based trips for their safety and the safety of our operators.

Current Preventative Methods

The agency remains committed to the safety of our riders and has implemented additional disinfecting methods when cleaning the vehicle fleet. Our regular cleaning process, includes; trash removal, sweeping and mopping of vehicle floors, and wiping down passenger and driver areas with a disinfectant solution.

The agency is enhancing the daily cleaning process to include an additional disinfectant that is sprayed to deter the spread of Coronavirus (COVID-19). The additional cleaning process is designed to disinfect high touch areas, including all railings, seating, operator area, and fareboxes. The agency will continue to clean and disinfect all vehicles within the fleet. This includes all buses, streetcars, ferries, and paratransit vehicles. Each vehicle is cleaned daily with a deep cleaning occurring every 48-72 hours. A log is maintained of all vehicles cleaned and updated daily.

In addition to enhanced cleaning procedures, the RTA has instituted other protective measures against COVID-19, including:

  • Working with operators union to develop, manufacture, and install barriers on all buses and streetcars
  • Temporary suspension of fare collection – speeds up boarding process thus reducing crowding near the farebox and operator compartment
  • Asking the public to use transit service for essential trips only 
  • Temporary closure/taping off of front area seats on buses and streetcars, with signage encourage customers to maintain social distancing
  • New PPE policy for front-line personnel—per guidance received from local public health advisers, implementing N95 mask protected by an additional surgical mask layer, to prolong the life of the N95 mask for 3-5 days

RTA continues to work with dedicated health professionals on developing more preventative measures against COVID-19.
