Algiers Service Improvements

Developing better bus service for Algiers riders

What Riders Said

Takeaways from the Algiers Transit Rider Survey

New Orleans RTA published the Algiers Transit Rider Survey on July 31 and closed the survey on September 20. We received 327 responses. The following items are the major takeaways from the survey responses that the RTA received and will be the guiding principles for improving Algiers bus service.

1. More Frequent Buses

Reduce the average wait time for passengers and makes transit a more convenient option for everyone.

2. Quicker Trips to Downtown

Some riders have experienced increased travel times to downtown with all Algiers routes servicing Wilty Terminal.

3. Service to Grocery Stores

Riders across Algiers want better access to Walmart on Behrman. Additionally, riders in Old Algiers want direct access to grocery stores via transit.

Quotes From Survey Respondents

The following are responses to open-ended questions given in the Algiers Transit Rider Survey. Riders have competing priorities when it comes to bus service, like the 103 servicing Algiers Point.

What do you like most about the current service?

“I like that the 103 loops around Algiers Point and connects to the ferry. I like that many other lines connect at Wilty Terminal.”

“That the 105 can be timed right down to the second! Those drivers are ALWAYS on time!!! And they are very helpful when I ask questions about a line I really don't know!”

“Ease of riding and understanding where it’s going. I like the hub system for ease of knowing where to go.”

“Frequent 103 runs past the ferry in both directions are nice.”

“If you miss the 114A then I know the 114B is coming shortly after.”

What do you think needs the most improvement?

“Less waiting time. A bus to Walmart without taking two buses and not let all buses go to the terminal. It wastes precious time.”

“I believe this bus shouldn’t go all the way to the ferry just to get people to the cut-off from downtown. I think Old Algiers/Algiers Point should have different service than the cut-off bus. I believe the old routes which were the 102/101 were the most effective routes.”

“The 103 needs to be 24/7 again. It should also be more frequent, especially since it is difficult to stay on schedule. The HOV lane should be open both directions only to busses and emergency vehicles, so traffic doesn't delay the westbank busses.”

“Need more covered bus shelters; more frequent service; Bus Rapid Transit via the CCC HOV bridge lanes”

“They mostly need to [improve] every route on the West Bank rethink them because this is this horrible service”
