RTA encourages riders to pre-purchase fare; extends ferry service along the Algiers Point - Canal Street route

  • February 15th, 2022

NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Regional Transit Authority strongly encourages ferry riders to pre-purchase fare in advance of Mardi Gras through the RTA GoMobile app. Riders can download the app from the Apple app store or Google Play to pre-purchase individual fares or jazzy passes for later use. Jazzy passes are valid across all modes including bus, streetcar, and ferry. Pre-purchasing passes will allow ferry riders to avoid waiting in long lines to purchase tickets during Mardi Gras. In addition to GoMobile, riders may pre-purchase passes at the RTA headquarters at 2817 Canal Street, select Walgreens stores, and Unique General Store (127 Royal Street). The agency anticipates increased ridership along the Algiers Point - Canal Street route through Mardi Gras.

Beginning Friday, February 18, the agency will extend ferry service along the Algiers Point – Canal Street route to accommodate increased ridership due to Mardi Gras festivities downtown.

  • On Friday, February 18, and Saturday, February 19, the first trip will leave the Algiers Point ferry terminal at 6 AM with the last trip leaving Canal Street at 12:15 AM.
  • From Sunday, February 20, through Tuesday, February 22, ferry service will begin at 6 AM with the last trip leaving Canal Street at 9:45 PM.
  • On Wednesday, February 23, through Monday, February 28, the last ferry will leave the temporary Canal Street terminal at 12:15 AM.

Ferry service on Mardi Gras day (March 1) will begin at 6 AM leaving Algiers Point and the last ferry will leave the Canal Street ferry terminal at 9:45 PM.

Normal ferry service will resume on Wednesday, March 2, 2022.

Masks are required on all RTA buses, streetcars, and ferries.

For more information, riders can contact Rideline at 504-248-3900 or visit our Mardi Gras webpage at www.norta.com/Mardi-Gras.
