New Orleans RTA Announces Temporary Suspension of Algiers-Canal Street Ferry Service Due to Algiers Ferry Renovation Project Construction
- March 25th, 2026
New Orleans — The New Orleans Regional Transit Authority (RTA) will temporarily suspend Algiers Point–Canal Street Ferry service to accommodate the next phase of construction at the Algiers Point Ferry Terminal.
Demolition activities are scheduled to begin Monday, March 30, 2026, and continue through the evening of Friday, April 3, 2026, weather permitting. This work is part of the ongoing $11.4 million terminal renovation project focused on improving safety, accessibility, and the overall passenger experience.
Due to the nature of water-based construction and equipment transport, the schedule is subject to change. RTA will provide updates as the project progresses.
During the service interruption, riders are encouraged to use the 103 – General Meyer Local bus route as an alternative. The route operates approximately every 40 minutes and maintains connectivity between the West Bank and downtown New Orleans.
RTA appreciates the public’s patience as this work advances critical upgrades to the ferry terminal. Please visit https://www.norta.com/current-projects/algiers-ferry-terminal-renovation for updates and for more information on this project.
