RTA Announces Temporary Suspension of 49–Riverfront Streetcar Service for Audubon Riverfront Project Improvements
- March 10th, 2026
NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Regional Transit Authority (RTA) will temporarily suspend streetcar service on the 49–Riverfront Streetcar Line from Monday, March 16 through at least Saturday, March 21, weather permitting, to accommodate construction activity associated with the Audubon Commission’s ongoing riverfront improvement project.
The temporary service suspension supports cosmetic improvements to the French Market streetcar stop along the Riverfront. The work includes painting the streetcar shelter and completing electrical work related to new pedestrian lighting being installed as part of the riverfront park enhancements.
To safely complete the work, crews will temporarily shut down the streetcar overhead catenary system while painting of the shelter roof takes place.
Riders are encouraged to plan ahead and utilize alternate transit options during the temporary suspension period. Updates regarding service restoration will be shared through RTA’s communication channels.
