RTA receives $1.35M federal funding to purchase non-revenue vehicles

  • April 12th, 2021
Today, the New Orleans Regional Transit Authority announced the award of $1,353,895 from the Federal Transit Administration (FTA) Bus and Bus Facilities Program Grant to replace aging non-revenue vehicles.  The RTA will use the funding to purchase 37 non-revenue vehicles to support RTA operations and maintenance.  Reflecting the RTA’s commitment to reducing its carbon emissions, hybrids will be purchased for 25 of the 37 vehicles included in this grant.

Non-revenue vehicles are essential to the agency’s operations by providing daily supervision across the agency and aids in the timely response to mechanical issues of revenue vehicles that may arise along routes. As the agency works to expand and enhance the transit network in the city, the funding will ensure that these necessary activities can be carried out seamlessly.  The new vehicles will replace RTA  fleet that have surpassed the FTA’s minimum required years of use and will be retired.

The FTA FY 2021 Bus and Bus Facilities Program Grant makes resources available to states and direct recipients to replace, rehabilitate and purchase buses and related equipment and to construct bus-related facilities including technological changes or innovations to modify low or no emission vehicles or facilities.
