New Orleans RTA Provides Updates on Streetcar Line Repairs, Service Adjustments

  • January 3rd, 2025

NEW ORLEANS – Today, the New Orleans Regional Transit Authority (RTA) is providing updates on its streetcar lines as service shifts from responding to this week’s mass casualty event to preparing for a range of repairs and reopenings over the next few weeks.

On Sunday (Jan. 5), bus service will replace streetcar service downtown on the 12-St. Charles Line overnight (6:30 p.m.-6:30 a.m.) as the Department of Public Works continues to conduct road repairs. Additional changes may occur, and riders will be updated accordingly.

On Monday (Jan. 6), the 49-UPT- Riverfront Streetcar Line is tentatively set to resume service once critical repairs to one of our substations are complete. These repairs, necessitated by vandalism and theft that disrupted operations, began on Dec. 16, 2024. Improvements are also being made to shelters along the route but will not affect the reopening of the line.

On Monday (Jan. 13), the City of New Orleans, in partnership with RTA, will work to remove and replace grout along the 46-Rampart-Loyola Streetcar Line. This line has been out of service for several weeks while the Department of Public Works repaired signalization damage. During this same period, crews will fix lighting along Rampart. This work is expected to be completed before Super Bowl LIX on Feb. 9, 2025. Bus service will be provided, including on Canal Street at Liberty.
