RTA Announces Temporary Service Disruption for St. Charles Streetcar Line Due to Repaving Project

  • April 10th, 2025

NEW ORLEANS - The City of New Orleans Department of Public Works, in partnership with the New Orleans Regional Transit Authority (RTA), will begin repaving St. Charles Avenue and a portion of Carondelet Street between Poydras Street and Canal Street. This project is scheduled to begin on April 14 and continue through the end of May. Crews will pour concrete between and adjacent to the streetcar tracks as part of the work.

This effort represents the third phase of streetcar infrastructure improvements in the Downtown area and is critical to enhancing the condition of both the tracks and surrounding roadway. These upgrades are designed to support the long-term reliability and efficiency of the historic St. Charles Streetcar Line.

During construction, St. Charles streetcar service will temporarily terminate at Erato Street. To ensure continued connectivity, RTA will operate a bus shuttle between Erato Street and Canal Street, allowing riders to complete their trips with minimal disruption.

Riders are encouraged to stay informed about service changes by downloading the Le Pass app, visiting www.norta.com, or calling the Rideline at 504-248-3900 for real-time updates and additional information.

For press inquiries/interview requests: contact Zach Stanfill at zstanfill@rtaforward.org.
