RTA Operates Essential Travel Only

  • January 7th, 2021

NEW ORLEANS – Beginning Friday, January 8th, the New Orleans Regional Transit Authority encourages all transit riders to use transit for essential travel only.  This includes travel to and from work, to medical appointments, pharmacies, as well as, grocery stores.  This change is consistent with the city’s return to a modified Phase One, to mitigate further spread of COVID-19.  Riders are reminded to wear face coverings, practice social distancing, and adhere to all safety signage and messaging while onboard and at stops.  Additionally, all RTA facilities will be closed to the public except for the ADA Eligibility/ID Center, located at 2817 Canal Street.

The RTA will continue to operate daily bus and streetcar service on a Saturday schedule. The Algiers Point – Canal St. Ferry and the Chalmette ferry will maintain the current schedule.

RTA remains committed to maintaining mobility throughout the city and continues to implement safety precautions for riders and frontline staff. The agency will continue daily vehicle deep cleanings with additional mid-day cleanings occurring at major transit hubs. Deep cleaning of the vehicle fleet interiors using a sprayed disinfectant to disinfect high touch areas, including all railings, seating, operator areas, and fareboxes has become a standard safety practice.
